In June 2016 ITRM were hugely successful in the annual Bexley Business Excellence Awards. Amongst other awards, we were delighted to be selected as the overall winner of the ‘Best Business for Employee Training and Development’ award.
Our training plans are reflective of our Vison and Values and we place great importance on the development, reward and recognition of all our team members.
As a result of our recent success we have spoken to our Service Delivery Team who were keen to share their journey with ITRM so far…
George Purvis, 1st Line Technical Support Analyst
‘In November 2015 I joined ITRM as an apprentice. Although I had not worked within the IT industry before this time I had completed two A-Levels in BTEC IT and IT, passing both. As a part of my studies I also obtained my certification in Cisco CCNA Homes and Small Businesses.
I decided that University was not the path for me and upon leaving school, I undertook a training course with MiddletonMurray. The course was 6 weeks long. I learned some important skills and I was helped to realise that a career in IT would be right for me. I had a particular interest in joining ITRM, who I understood offered services that I would like to be involved in. ITRM support MiddletonMurray’s infrastructure and work with them for recruitment, including apprenticeships. Together they arranged an interview for me and I was selected to join.
My first couple of days at ITRM were a little unnerving but the induction process was really thorough. I was taken around the office by Sue, Business Operations Manager, and introduced to the whole team. Everyone was really friendly and let me know what their roles were and how I would be working with them. For my first couple of days I sat with Jim, 2nd Line Technical Support Analyst, who taught me about ITRM's internal systems and much more. Although the type of work he is involved in is more complex than what I do it provided a good insight into how we work.
The mentor scheme at ITRM was most valuable. I was paired with Kyle, who has recently been promoted to a 2nd Line Technical Support Analyst. He taught me what was going on, how we operate and what there is to know. He has taught me so much of what I know today and if I have a question he will help me find the answer.
As a result of my training and the progress I had made, on the 1st June 2016 I was offered a permanent position at ITRM as Junior 1st Line Technical Support Analyst. The next 12 months of my training is currently being arranged for the Trailblazer Apprenticeship Scheme and I am excited about my future here at ITRM. I enjoy my time here, there are lots of positives. Everyone is supportive and makes time to help me, they are all so friendly. My friends have told me I am lucky to have found a place like this to work.’
As part of our commitment to the development of our employees we work with our team members closely to ensure our training plans deliver our values. We stress the importance of individual responsibility regarding the progress of agreed development activities and we look to increase individual value through improving knowledge, skills and behaviours. We will be working with our team over the coming months to share their stories.
